In its bid for internalization, the University has started its COIL programs (Collaborative Online International Learning) collaborative learning projects with students from other universities to offer scholars a great international academic experience adapted to the current situation. Over this academic year, nearly 50 COIL seminars have been programmed with the presence of over a hundred professors from all five faculties and the Escuela Técnica Superior.
The Faculty of Economics and Business has already held some COIL programs adjusted to different subjects. During September, both International Marketing and Administrative and Commercial Management were completed through a joint COIL with HU University of Applied Sciences (Utrecht, The Netherlands). A total of 40 Spanish students and 100 Dutch students are taking part in this project, analyzing the differences between Spanish and Dutch companies based in both countries.
The Faculty has also begun other projects such as the Cross-Border Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) / Fusiones y Adquisiciones Transfronterizas, with the participation of over 50 students and professors from the Dutch University. Students from both institutions work together to analyze, assess, and negotiate a hypothetical merger agreement (M&A) between Telefónica S.A. (Spain) and KPN (The Netherlands). To that end, national teams must thoroughly examine their company before negotiating with the peer country, and to finish off, they must elaborate on a merger proposal for the stakeholders.
Another example is the FINTECH-COIL seminar that is organized with the Inholland University of Applied Sciences (The Netherlands) taught to over 70 students from both universities and centered around the study of Fintech financial industry and the future of finance. Students must present a group assignment, meaning students from both nationalities work together.
SUPSI University (Switzerland) and the fashion multinational GUESS joined to hold another COIL for the International Marketing students, who must respond to two challenges proposed by the Marketing Department from GUESS.
A mention of some of the COIL courses from the Escuela Politécnica Superior (EPS): such as the Architectural Projects, in collaboration with the Universidad San Francisco de Quito (Ecuador); and the Universal Accessibility Consultant, as well as the Universidad de Monterrey (Mexico) have also started.
The rest of the COIL seminars that will deepen into very different matters for the students of all faculties and Escuela Politécnica Superior (EPS), will take place over this academic year together with International Institutions from different continents such as Coventry University (UK), RMIT University (Melbourne, Australia), Université Catholique de Lille (France), University of Makeni (Sierra Leone), Pontificia Universidad Católica de Argentina, Howest University of Applied Sciences (Belgium), Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (Mexico), Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá, Colombia), Thomas More University of Applied Sciences (Belgium), Universiteit Antwerpen (Antwerp, Belgium), Inholland University of Applied Sciences (The Netherlands), HU University of Applied Sciences (Utrecht, The Netherlands). This interactive and pioneering methodology, which has been gaining presence in some of the most international universities around the globe for some years now, consists of the development of modules and teaching classes virtually, between professors from two different universities and countries. This allows us to bring the experience of global learning to a broader spectrum of students, regardless of their geographic location and without leaving their home.
